LUX FORECASTS 15 MILLION TONS OF NEW PROTEIN NEEDED FOR AQUACULTURE DEMAND BY 2050

New report evaluates insect, single-cell, and algae protein as replacement options for fish meal

Global fish meal production has remained steady at 5 million tons annually. However, over the next 30 years, 15 million tons of new protein will be needed for aquaculture. Lux’s new report, “Future Fish Feed: Forecasting Alternative Aqua Feed Ingredients” evaluates insect protein, single-cell protein, and algae protein as options to replace fish meal.

Insect protein, single-cell protein, and algae proteins have emerged as major options to replace fish meal. This report includes a political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) analysis, which makes clear that algae is poorly positioned for success as a major source of protein for aquafeed.
