Demand for alternative proteins is driven by growing environmental, cost, and supply chain concerns. Accordingly, novel ingredient producers aiming to scale and offset future protein gaps with sustainable proteins are multiplying and seeking attention. However, these alternatives face daunting barriers to scaling up, and will require support from many partners.
Collaboration between protein producers, researchers, policymakers, and engineers within the feed, food, energy, materials, and digital industries, is creating a universe of opportunities to capitalize on.
